Arrow-Amitriptyline is a brand of Amitriptyline Hydrochloride. Amitriptyline is a type of antidepressant. This type of medication is designed to help with regulating chemicals in the brain and balancing them. This can reduce the highs and lows often associated with depression.
What is Amitriptyline Used for?
This medication can be taken to help improve mood. It is often prescribed for those suffering from mild or moderate depression. It can take up to 6 months of use for a person to feel that they are no longer chronically suffering from depression. It is often prescribed along with individual or group therapy to assist with behavior modification.
Dosage and How to Take Amitriptyline/h2>
The dose for an individual varies based on their mental health evaluation, weight, and other factors. The doctor will start you out on a low dose and monitor progress. The dose may be as low as 10 mg to start. It can take up to 4 weeks of daily use to notice improvements in mental well-being.
The maximum daily dose of Amitriptyline is 150 mg. With the higher doses of 75 mg or more it should be divided into 2 or 3 doses at intervals throughout the day rather than taken all at once. Don’t alter your dose on your own, only with the approval of your doctor. Don’t skip taking this medication just because you feel better.
This medication isn’t a cure for depression or other mental health concerns. If it is working for you and you stop taking it, the symptoms can return/get worse. To help reduce nausea or vomiting this medication should be taken with food.
There can be some side effects experienced with the use of Amitriptyline. For most patients the side effects are very mild. They often go away after a week or so as the body gets accustomed to it. The higher the dose, the more likely side effects are to occur.
Such side effects can include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, changes to the way food and dry taste, headache, and lower libido. Some patients experience drowsiness so don’t drive a vehicle or operate machinery until you know how it will affect you.

It is important to understand a person may feel worse before they start to feel better with this type of medication.
If you experience any serious side effects such as thoughts of suicide or severe aggressive behaviors you need to talk to a medical professional immediately. Any changes in breathing, heart rate, or the swelling of the skin should also be reported immediately. Avoid drinking alcohol with this medication. Arrow–Amitriptyline isn’t recommended for anyone under 18 years of age.
