What is Asacol?
Asacol containing the active ingredient mesalazine is an anti-inflammatory drug belonging to a class of medication called aminosalicylates. The medication works by stopping the body from producing a certain substance that may cause inflammation, stomach pain, rectal bleeding, tissue damage and diarrhea. It can be used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis. Some people may also use the medication in the treatment of mild to moderate Crohn's disease.
How is Asacol used?
Asacol is usually taken orally 3 times daily or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the medication. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed or broken to prevent the drug from being released properly into the colon.

Warnings
