Belsomra (Suvorexant) is newly approved treatment for insomnia. It differes from other sleep aids by targeting the wake neurotransmitter called orexin. Inhibiting oxerin helps with regulating the sleeping and waking cycle in people who have trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep.
Belsomra (Suvorexant) was approved by the FDA in August 2014 and was firest available to patients in February 2015.
Belsomra (Suvorexant) should not be taken if you have had a previous addiction or dependence on drugs or medicine. It can be habit-forming. Belsomra (Suvorexant) may be contra-indictated in people who have depression or have suffered depression in the past. It may also be unsuitable if you have breathing problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or sleep apnea. Discuss any of this siutations with your doctor and they will be able to advise if Belsomra is suitable for use.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding. The effects of Belsomra (Suvorexant) on unborn babies is unknown. It is also unknown if it secreted through breast milk.

In more severe cases of insomnia, you may be prescribed up to 20mg. Belsomra (Suvorexant) should be taken just prior to bed time. In most cases a dosage of 10mg will be prescribed as an initial dosage. Take only the dosage prescribed by your doctor and follow all other instructions as given.
