Capecitabine (Capegard)
Capecitabine (Capegard) is a chemotherapeutic drug used to treat certain cancers including breast cancer, colon cancel, or colorectal cancer. It works be interfering with production of certain proteins that are responsible for cancel cell growth and reproduction.
Capecitabine (Capegard) Dosage and Administration
Capegard comes as a 500mg tablet. Follow the dosage instructions as provided by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the tablets - swallow them whole with a glass of water. It is recommended to take the tablet with food or soon after eating.
Capecitabine (Capegard) Side Effects
The following side effects are quite common. Contact your doctor if there persist or become troublesome:
- back, joint, or muscle pain
- constipation
- dizziness
- eye irritation
- headache
- itchy or dry skin
- loss of appetite
- mild nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea
- stomach pain
- taste changes
- tiredness or weakness
- sleeping difficulties

Capecitabine (Capegard) Warnings and Precautions
Capecitabine may interfere with other medicines. Let you doctor know of all medications you are currently taking.
Capecitabine can reduce your body's ability to fight infection and can reduce platelet counts. Try to avoid any situations that will increase your risk of contracting an infection or causing yourself physical injury.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of Capecitabine. Be sure to stay adequately hydrated.
Make sure your doctor is aware of your full medical history before taking Capecitabine. Some medical conditions may reduce the effectiveness of this drug, or may be exacerbated by taken it.
Do not take Capecitabine if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Capecitabine can cause damage to the fetus. Effects of Capecitabine while breast-feeding are unknown, so taken it while breast feeding is not recommended.
