What is Celepram (Citalopram)?
Celepram (Citalopram) is an antidepressant classified as a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) that is used to treat depression. It increases the amount of the natural substance serotonin in the brain to help maintain mental balance. Some people may also use it to treat anxiety, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
How is Celepram (Citalopram) used?
Celepram (Citalopram) is usually taken orally once per day either in the morning or evening. The medication can be taken either with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Always take the exact prescribed dosage and not increase or decrease the dosage without consulting with a doctor. The recommended maximum dosage should be 40mg in a 24 hour period. Do not discontinue the treatment without contacting a doctor as symptoms may return and become worse or cause severe withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
Celepram (Citalopram) may cause side effects such as:

- Headache
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Dry mouth
- Insomnia
- Drowsiness
- Diarrhea
- Increased sweating and urination
- Decreased sex drive or ability
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Fainting
- Tremors
- Irregular heartbeat
- Seizures
- Vomit that look like coffee grounds
- Stiff muscles
- Confusion
- Hallucination
Warnings
The medication should not be taken at the same time as monoamine oxidase inhibitor medicines (MAOI) as they may interact.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Celepram (Citalopram) is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
