Clomifene or Clomiphene (Fertomid) is used to enhance ovulation by releasing the required hormones into the region. Some women require this extra assistance to ovulate. The stimulation that is induced with Clomifene allows the egg to be released and stimulates the hormonal area as needed. This is one, but may not be all the areas that can be treated by Clomifene.
Clomifene Precautions
It is not recommended that a person drives, operates machinery or performs any other type of activity that might be considered hazardous while taking Clomifene. Clomifene has been known to induce blurred vision and other side effects of a visual nature. If you experience any visual problems consult your doctor right away.
Before taking Clomifene consult your doctor if:
- There is any chance you are pregnant
- Have any endocrine disorder
- Have bleeding of the vaginal region
- You are experiencing liver disease
- Have ovarian problems
- You are experiencing any medical illness of a chronic nature
Any of these conditions could directly effect the dosage or Clomifene so it important that your medical provider is made aware of any concerns.
Clomifene Dosage and Administration
Naturally you always want to use this product as prescribed by your medical provider. Each dose should be administered with an entire glass of water. Clomifene is typically administered in 5 day cycles. Your doctor will provide the desired instructions for this. Like many medications the storage of Clomifene is very important. It should be held at room temperature. It should not be held in direct light. In addition, you should keep this product away from moisture or extreme heat. If you happen to skip a dose consult your doctor for further instructions.
Although it is not common to overdose on Clomifene, you should consult immediate medical treatment if you do. If your vision becomes blurred, you begin to see spots in front of your eyes, become flushed, experience nausea, or begin to vomit, seek emergency medical treatment immediately.
Clomifene Side Effects
The administering of Clomifene should cease at once if allergic reactions are apparent like your throat closing, facial swelling or difficulty breathing. Some patients have experienced ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome or (OHSS) when using Clomifene. Symptoms of this include:
- Legs or hands swelling
- Pain in the abdominal region
- Shortness of breath
- The gaining of weight
- Vomiting
- Nausea
Some other side effects to be aware of are:
- Enlarged ovary, which caus es pain in the region
- Becoming flushed
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headache
- Bleeding of the uterine that is not normal
- Vision that is blurred
- Discomfort or tenderness of the breast region
