What is Era?
Era containing the active ingredient erythromycin stearate is considered a macrolide antibiotics type of medication. The medication works by preventing bacteria from producing protein that is necessary for their survival. It leaves the bacteria unable to increase in numbers and allowing the immune system to destroy the bacteria causing infections. It can be used to treat infections to the respiratory tract, urinary tract, intestines, ears, sinuses, mouth and can also be used to treat acne.

How is Era used?
Era is usually taken orally 2 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken on an empty stomach along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication before completing the prescribed dosage, even if symptoms look healed, as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause the infection to return and the bacteria to become immune to antibiotics.

Adverse effects
Patients using Era may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Stomach pain or cramps
• Jaundice
• Dark urine
• Hearing loss
• Irregular heartbeat

Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.

Warnings
The medication can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Era is not always suitable for all patients.
