Gabapentin may need to be taken up to 3 times per day. It depends on the severity of the seizures and the assessment by the doctor. The lowest dose and the least amount of doses will be given initially for the treatment. However, it may need to be increased to prevent the seizures.

Gabapentin can be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Gabapentin should be taken with a full glass of water to help reduce the risk of dehydration. Gabapentin isn’t a cure for epilepsy but it may be a form of treatment that can help offer some relief with it. Don’t stop taking Gabapentin suddenly as that can result in adverse effects including dizziness, sweating, and anxiety.

It is best to avoid the use of alcohol while taking this medication. Common side effects include headaches, shaking, dizziness, and fatigue. Such side effects should diminish though after a few weeks of use. If they continue talk to your doctor as your dose may need to be reduced of Gabapentin.
