Gabapentin 300mg
Gabapentin (Gabapin) is often given to help reduce the pain associated with epilepsy as many people get pains and aches that linger for months or even years at a time. Individuals that have seizures due to epilepsy often have to take a variety of medications in order to successfully control it. In such an instance, the use of this medication will need to be ongoing. Gabapentin is also prescribed for shingles, restless leg syndrome, diabetic neuropathy and menopausal hot flashes.
Gabapentin is able to send different messages to the brain so that it won’t be sending messages to the body about the pain. As a result, a person is able to sleep better and to function daily with a better overall quality of life. This type of medicine is classified as an anticonvulsant. It reduces the amount of abnormal activity found in the brain.
Gabapentin may need to be taken up to 3 times per day. It depends on the severity of the seizures and the assessment by the doctor. The lowest dose and the least amount of doses will be given initially for the treatment. However, it may need to be increased to prevent the seizures.
Gabapentin can be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Gabapentin should be taken with a full glass of water to help reduce the risk of dehydration. Gabapentin isn’t a cure for epilepsy but it may be a form of treatment that can help offer some relief with it. Don’t stop taking Gabapentin suddenly as that can result in adverse effects including dizziness, sweating, and anxiety.
It is best to avoid the use of alcohol while taking this medication. Common side effects include headaches, shaking, dizziness, and fatigue. Such side effects should diminish though after a few weeks of use. If they continue talk to your doctor as your dose may need to be reduced of Gabapentin.
