What is Genkeran (Chlorambucil) Used For?
Genkeran (Chlorambucil) is a cytostatic, antitumor drug. It interacts with nucleophilic centers of DNA and RNA (especially guanidine bases), forming strong covalent bonds with them, which disrupts DNA replication and damages RNA. Genkeran (Chlorambucil) is used to treat lymphogranulomatosis, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia.
Genkeran (Chlorambucil) Dosage and Administration

Genkeran (Chlorambucil) is usually one of the components of combination therapy, and therefore the dose and the mode of administration regimen are selected individually for each patient.
Tablets should not be divided into parts.
Genkeran (Chlorambucil) Side effects
The use of Genkeran (Chlorambucil) may cause side effects in some patients including:
- myelosuppression
- gastrointestinal disorders
- impaired liver function, jaundice
- skin rash
- fever
- peripheral neuropathy
- pneumonia
- aseptic cystitis
- convulsive seizures (in children with nephrotoxic syndrome)
- amenorrhea
- azoospermia

Genkeran (Chlorambucil)Precautions
Genkeran (Chlorambucil) is prescribed under the control of a blood test, kidney and liver function. With bone marrow hypoplasia, the daily dose of Genkeran (Chlorambucil) should not exceed 0.1 mg/kg. Treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in patients with signs of bone marrow failure must begin with prednisone. Therapy with Genkeran (Chlorambucil) should not be stopped with a decrease in the number of neutrophils, but it should be borne in mind that it can continue for 10 days after canceling treatment. Dose reduction is recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment. Patients with reduced renal excretory function should be closely monitored, as they may develop additional myelodepression associated with azotemia.
Genkeran (Chlorambucil) is contraindicated for use during pregnancy. At the time of treatment should stop breastfeeding.
