Metronidazole (Trichozole) is a type of antibiotic that may be prescribed to fight various forms of bacteria in the body. This bacteria may be in the skin, the gastrointestinal tract, or the reproductive tract. This is a type of medicine that is taken daily by mouth. Depending on the type of bacteria, the medicine may be given for 5 days or up to 10 days.

It is very important to follow the directions of the doctor with this medicine. It has to be taken daily or it won’t be effective. Skipping doses can allow the bacteria to survive. Never take more of it than recommended as that additional amount won’t kill off the bacteria any faster. Try to take Metronidazole at the same time every day to get the best results.

Not everyone is able to use this medicine due to the way it tends to interact with various medicines. If you have any type of blood disease, kidney problems, or liver problems then this medicine could make them worse. You may not be able to take this medicine if you take any medicine that is designed for the purpose of thinning your blood.

Never drink alcohol while taking Metronidazole as it is known to cause an array of negative effects. They can include excessive sweating, headaches, vomiting, and stomach cramps. It is a good idea to limit your exposure to UV rays while using this medicine and even for a couple of weeks afterwards. Wear sunscreen, long sleeves, and a hat when possible while outdoors.

Most people are able to use this medicine without any problems. However, there could be some mild side effects such as not being able to eat as much, food may not taste as good, you may be thirsty often, and you may find the color of your urine is much darker than normal. Let your doctor know right away if you end up experiencing pain in the joints, you are itching often, or you see a rash develop.
