Uses

Opsutan (Macitentan) is used for long-term treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension II – III FC. Opsutan (Macitentan) is an endothelin-1 receptor antagonist capable of binding to endothelin type A and B receptors. Endothelin-1 is a mediator of various effects, including vasoconstriction, induction of fibrosis, cell proliferation, hypertrophy and inflammation. Macitentan has a high activity and continuously blocks the receptors for endothelin-1 smooth muscle cells of the pulmonary arteries.

Dosage and Administration

Always follow your doctor`s instructions when using Opsutan (Macitentan) to get the safest and most effective results from treatment. Opsutan (Macitentan) is prescribed only by a doctor who has experience working with macitentan.Typically, the recommended dose is 1 tablet (10 mg) once a day. Eating does not affect the absorption of Opsutan (Macitentan), so it can be taken regardless of the meal.

The tablet must be swallowed whole, washed down with a glass of water, do not chew, crumble or break.

The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Side effects

The use of Opsutan (Macitentan) may cause side effects in some patients including:

  • nasopharyngitis
  • flu-like syndrome
  • headache
  • anemia
  • nasal congestion
  • peripheral edema

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious or worrying symptoms.

Precautions

There are no data on the use of mazitentan during pregnancy. In preclinical studies, the teratogenic effect of matsitentan was established. The use of Opsutan (Macitentan) during pregnancy is contraindicated.

During therapy, a monthly pregnancy test is recommended.

It has not been established whether mazitentan passes into breast milk. If it is necessary to use Opsutan (Macitentan) during lactation, breastfeeding should be stopped.

Opsutan (Macitentan) may have some effect on the ability to drive vehicles and machinery. However, caution is required when performing these activities, taking into account the patient’s clinical condition and side effects associated with the use of Opsutan (Macitentan).
